Within my first year at the DCS, I started to reach out to the marketing team and the leadership board to improve the DCS branding with the goal to make it not only more modern, but also to increase the usability of the brand. The problem

The DCS had a limited colour palette to use across different customer & client touchpoints like the DCS website, social media channels and so on. I worked on a holistic concept to improve the overall branding of the DCS to feel more modern, engaging and emobility facing by deleting random stock photos and replacing them with more meaningful 3D illustrations and other assets.

I worked on a holistic concept to improve the overall branding of the DCS to feel more modern, engaging and emobility facing by deleting random stock photos and replacing them with more meaningful 3D illustrations and other assets.

The problem

The DCS had a limited colour palette to use across different customer & client touchpoints like the DCS website, social media channels and so on. DCS Full-CGI Image Film

At the end of 2024, I started to create an image film for Digital Charging Solutions, showcasing the services, front ends and goals. The idea of the initiative was to create something that would make everyone at DCS proud of what they do. Since DCS, much like any other IT company, only works on digital things, I wanted to create something that felt and evoked emotion from the company's employees as well as its customers and shareholders. This video was a personal initiative that I initiated and was not requested by anyone at DCS itself.

Almost everything you see in this video is handmade and hand-animated from scratch to tell a holistic, emotional and compelling story.

3D Illustration assets

Inspired by the latest videos from Microsofts UI films as well as anamorphic 3D illustrations, I wanted to create something similar for the DCS. Here I used the previously defined personas of customers & clients to create matching illustrations that can later be used for the DCS website and social media assets. Over 90% of all elements you see are custom made and 3D modelled by hand.

Process

But coming to this result took a lot of time. We had to make nearly 12 iterations within around 6 month time. The first versions looked completely different than the final results as we first tried to match to much Micrsofts idea and also bringing it to much the "app" aspect into the illustration.

The first rough idea was to start with a widely branched network approach of typical charging objects.

We then brought in other elements, including a green charging element, and also brought them closer together.

In the end, only the shape of the “app icon” remained the same, and the elements representing the service areas were placed on top of it.

Social Media Assets

The next step of the iteration was to collaboration with the PR team of the DCS responsible for the social media assets. Here was the main goal to design re-usable components similar like a little design system to make it easy for the PR team to quickly make posts and react to changes.
